On three occasions: Summer 2022, Winter 2024 and Fall, 2025, I have had the opportunity to photograph the Onaqui Wild Mustang herd roaming the Great Basin Desert in western Utah. More than 200 horses comprise the north and south herds on the Onaqui Herd Management Area. In 2022, I observed both the north and south herds, but in recent years the south herd has moved to a more remote area. Subject to periodic roundups, injuries and illegal captures, these horses have remained resilient, but are in need of our protection. A percentage of sales of my photographs will be donated to Red Birds Trust, www.redbirdstrust.org, a non-profit grass roots organization founded by wild horse advocates.
